AFTERCARE
Cosmetic Tattoo Lips

Aftercare is the most important part of this process, you need to follow these instructions step by step to ensure the best healed result of your lips.

After your treatment your lips will weep a clear fluid - this is to be expected. Wipe firmly to remove this fluid. Please be aware leaving this to dry will cause premature scabbing and discomfort.

The initial swelling can be obvious but usually subsides within 24-48 hours, however this can last a little longer in some cases if your lips are fuller. Cold compresses or cold packs can help with the lips if necessary. Please do not use ice packs as this will cause freezer burn.

Your lips will be very tender and dry, it is vital that you keep them moist with Vaseline. If you wish to use Bepanthen, you may do so after the scabbing process has finished as Bepanthen can speed up the healing process and this is not what we want to do. Nothing else is to be used on the lips.

If you tend to suffer from cold sores we strongly recommend using some form of cold sore cream as well as taking Lysine until your follow up appointment has been completed. Please be aware if you have a history with cold sores you may break out in cold sores or ulcers 2-3 days after the full lip treatment. If this happens, stop using your Vaseline as this will spread the ulcers, and focus on treating the cold sores. Go see your doctor for a prescription of anti-viral medication.

We recommend you do not do any of the following;

  • Avoid soap and or cleansers around the treatment area

  • Make up (excluding lip products) can be worn after your treatment. Please avoid using any lip products for at least 2 weeks after having both your initial and follow up completed.

  • When going in to the sun, apply sunscreen or products containing SPF on your lips. Exposure to the sun can cause fading and colour change over time. Do not expose your lips to the sun for the first 2 weeks.

  • Do not go swimming in sea water or chlorine treated water for the first 2 weeks. Cover your lips with Vaseline when swimming in salt or chlorine water to avoid a bleaching effect.

  • Chemicals of any kind can interfere with the healing process and colour of your new tattoo. Glycolic acid and face peel must be kept away from your tattoo as it has been reported to lighten the colour with constant, continued use.

AFTER CARE STEPS

  • Immediately after your tattoo treatment, wipe your lips every 10 minutes for an hour.

  • Once the hour has passed continue to wipe your lips and apply a thin layer of Vaseline every hour for the remainder of the day.

  • From day 2 onwards, gently clean the area with warm running water, using a clean cloth or cotton pad to pat dry, then apply a thin layer of Vaseline to keep them hydrated.

  • Around days 3-7 the dry skin on your lips should start to flake off. During this time it is vital that you do not pick the flakes or dry skin off your lips but let them fall off naturally.

  • Continue using your cold sore cream and Vaseline for a minimum of one month to condition the lips.
